Israel halts fuel
supplies to Gaza after attack
Israel on Thursday halted all fuel supplies to the Hamas-ruled
Gaza Strip a day after Palestinian terrorists infiltrated
the terminal from where Israel transfers the fuel and killed
two people.
Israeli officials said the Palestinians who will soon
feel the effect of shrinking consumer and industrial fuel
supplies should blame Hamas for their plight.
"Hamas is in charge of the Gaza Strip and is responsible
for every terror attack that originates there," said Defense
Minister Ehud Barak in a telephone conversation with
visiting Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
A Foreign Ministry statement noted that Hamas and its
allies in Gaza are purposely harming not only Israelis, but
also their own people by attacking the very mechanisms
Israel is using to try to aid the population of Gaza.
In an official complaint filed with UN Secretary-General
Ban Ki-moon, Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Gillerman
pointed out that the Palestinians recently complained about
fuel shortages in Gaza caused by an Israeli embargo, but
then cynically attack the fuel terminal after Israel turns
the taps back on.
