Making Lemonade: A
Spiritual Journey
Through Pain and Divorce,
by Angela Dawnell Chase,
is a new, captivating
memoir that takes the
reader through the
stages of dealing with
the emotional aspect of
separation from their
spouse.
Chase,
witnessed domestic
violence from both her
father and step-father
at an early age, and her
dream in life was to
marry one day and live
the "happily ever after"
fairy tale marriage, but
what she experienced
turned out to be
anything but that.
Sadly, after 12 years of
marriage she learned
that her husband had
been cheating on her the
entire time, and it
wasn't until after their
divorce that she had
really come to terms
with the fact of how
much emotional and
verbal abuse she had
endured.
Believing that her
future was doomed, Chase
resorted to starvation
as a way to take her own
life and after dropping
to a mere 90 pounds, it
was evident that she was
succeeding.
During that time none of
her friends nor her
mother lived nearby, and
while alone and feeling
hopeless, Chase was
riddled with the pain
and torment which is so
often associated with
emotional scarring. That
was until she felt the
comfort that broke forth
through the darkest
point in her life, "God
intervened." The
presence that she felt
was immediate, but there
was a process of healing
that she had to follow.
"Eventually I
established my new life.
It was not easy to do
emotionally and
financially, but with
God, who made it all
possible, I healed and
found a great life and
the love of my life,"
Chase said.
Now
working as a divorce
care facilitator at
Calvary Community Church
and helping others find
hope, Chase is dedicated
to use the circumstances
that she lived through
to help others
understand that they do
have a "future" and
there is "hope."
"The
reason I wrote the book
is to show that with the
love of Jesus, we can
break our bonds to the
past and break the cycle
and heal from abuse. So
many people don't fully
heal from abuse and
divorce. They are left
bitter or broken," Chase
explained as to why she
wrote Making Lemonade: A
Spiritual
Journey Through Pain
and Divorce.
Chase
has done a magnificent
job encouraging through
the valley of divorce
and pain, and has
received rave reviews by
readers and ministerial
staff.
"Angela's testimony of
her journey through pain
and divorce, "Making
Lemonade" is a beautiful
example of how God can
bring beauty out of the
most discouraging and
painful circumstances.
Her story will certainly
encourage anyone who
reads it." said Leslie
Martin (Pastor Mark
Martin's wife) of
Women's Ministries,
Calvary Community
Church.
"Angela's story is
inspirational. A must
read for those who have
been shipwrecked by the
pains of broken
relationships. Through
each chapter Angela
shares her brokenness
and her breakthroughs
with authenticity &
transparency. You will
be inspired and
challenged as you see
the Lord's footprints
holding and securing the
broken-hearted close to
Him,"
said Pastor Paul Dietz,
of Calvary Community
Church.
